Unique Industry In Need of
Personalized Service and System

Carlmac Industries turns to NetBase Technolgies

When Carlmac Industries, a leader in the composite wood fabrication industry, found themselves in need of integrating new technology in their office, they wanted a fellow industry leader to do the job. Owner Carl McMurphy turned to Kenny Lance, owner of NetBase Technologies, for all of his computer and software programming needs.

“NetBase was a natural choice for us,” said McMurphy. “As a fabricator of domestic and foreign wood composition board, we needed someone to tell us what we needed as far as computer systems and handle the installation for us,” said McMurphy.

Carlmac Industries services the furniture and cabinet industry, as well as the toy and game industry, fixture display industry and clip board manufacturers with composite wood, also serving as a wholesaler for the board. The diversity of their industry, including the diversity of the industries they service, demanded a system that was completely customized to meet their needs.

“Our business isn’t like everybody else’s business, so we couldn’t use a canned computer system that would work for everyone else. We always ended up with a lot of stuff we didn’t need,” said McMurphy. “I knew to be efficient we needed a personalized system specific to our business. I was able to tell NetBase the format and what reports we wanted and they made it happen. They researched our needs, worked closely with us, and in the end, we got exactly what we needed and wanted,” said McMurphy.

“I’m a believer in simpler is better,” said McMurphy. “I know the work could be done manually, but this is so much easier. NetBase has made our business better. This is so much faster and more efficient,” said McMurphy.

NetBase also provides Carlmac Industries with a service contract to meet all of their information technology needs. “All I do is call Kenny when we have a problem,” said McMurphy. “Most of the time, he can talk me through it on the phone. If they have to come out, they come promptly. They come in, know what’s wrong and it’s fixed,” said McMurphy.

NETBASE OFFERS NEW SERVICE

Around the Clock Protection with Server Watch

Server Watch is a 24/7 monitoring service designed to detect any critical problems on servers that could go undetected without the use of this tool. When deployed, Server Watch will detect and report to NetBase potential problems such as cpu overheating, memory errors, disk space problems, backup problems, security issues such as patches that need to be installed or virus protection that has expired - all before these issues cause the server to shutdown or crash.

“Before the use of Server Watch, we would either remote into client systems or physically go onsite at least once a week to check servers for problems. With the use of this tool we are able to monitor servers 24/7,” said Kenny Lance, owner of NetBase Technologies.

The system is deployed by installing monitoring software on the server. Upon installing the software the Network Operations Center (NOC) is immediately notified and the monitoring begins. The NOC is in operation 24-hours a day seven days a week and is staffed by 275 network engineers with numerous certifications including Cisco, Microsoft and Red Hat Linux. When the NOC receives an alert from the monitoring software, their engineers make an evaluation and notify NetBase that a client server requires attention.

“We have procedures in place to insure that the issue is resolved. Server Watch is classic preventative maintenance on a much more high tech level. No longer do we have to discover problems after the fact. We are now able to provide a much higher level of service to our clients when utilizing this tool,” said Lance.

NetBase offers Server Watch at a very reasonable price.

1-3 Servers - $ 49.00/Month/Server
4 or more Servers - $ 39.00/Month/Server

For more information about Server Watch, contact Kenny Lance at NetBase at 601.264.1606, ext 101 or email him at kenny@nbtol.com.

Cleaning Your Cache

(and no, we aren’t talking about your money!)

Often referred to as the cache, the Temporary Internet Files folder contains a “travel record” of the items you have seen, heard, or downloaded from the web, including images, sounds, web pages, even cookies. Typically these items are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Storing these files in your cache can make browsing the web faster because it usually takes your computer less time to display a web page when it can call up some of the page’s elements or even the entire page from your local Temporary Internet Files folder.

All those files stored in your cache take up space, so from time to time, you may want to clear out the files stored in your cache to free up some space on your computer. This is called clearing the cache.

To clear your cache:

  1. On the Internet Explorer 6 Tools menu, click Internet Options. The Internet Options box should open to the General tab.
  2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. This will delete all the files that are currently stored
    in your cache.
  3. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Tip: You can adjust your Internet Explorer 6 settings to automatically clear the cache whenever you close Internet Explorer 6. Go to the Tools menu, and click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. In the“Settings” box, scroll down to the section labeled “Security”" and click to check the box next to the “Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed” option. Click OK to finish. This option does not delete cookies, but it will clear your cache of other files when you close your browser.

Geek Greek

Sometimes, you may think your tech guy is speaking a foreign language when actually he’s just speaking a language the staff at NetBase tends to call “Geek Greek.” Below is a list of commonly used words that will help you better communicate in this world of technology.

  • Operating System - the system software that controls the computer.
  • Port - a connection socket or jack on the pc.
  • Print Spooler - a program that stores documents to be printed on the hard drive, thereby freeing the memory up and allowing other functions to be performed while printing goes on in the background.
  • Server - a central computer dedicated to sending and receiving data from other computers (on a network).
  • Surge Suppressor - a power strip that has circuits designed to reduce the effects of surge in electrical power. (not the same as a UPS)
  • Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS) - a constantly charging battery pack which powers the computer. A UPS should have enough charge to power your computer for several minutes in the event of a total power failure, giving you time to save your work and safely shut down.
